Evidence held by the British Government shows that the Russian Government was responsible for murdering the dissident spy, the inquest into his death was told today.
Hugh Davies, counsel to the inquest, said that an assessment of secret material “does establish a prima facie case as to the culpability of the Russian state in the death of Alexander Litvinenko”.
The disclosure will reignite the confrontation between London and the Kremlin after the November 2006 murder, which plunged Anglo-Russian relations to their worse level since the Cold War.
